Element was formed in 2005 by Ella Mesma and explores the development of latin styles for the stage and theatre using elements of contemporary and urban styles. The company is comprised of stunning professional dancers both in London and Leeds.
The company won a category of the European Salsa Champions in 2007 and has since travelled extensively performing their shows and also teaching.
Performances and master classes have taken the company to the USA (Boston, NYC), India (Chennai, Mombai, New Delhi), Cuba (Havana), Greece, Denmark, Spain, Serbia, Sweden, Croatia and Finland.
Element specialise in salsa, samba, afro cuban and afro brazilian dance forms. They use the dances of the Orixa within their work, and try to incorporate the elements in particular of four gods: Oxum/Oya/Oxossi/Xango. These four gods also represent the four elements (Earth/Air/Fire/Water).
They also use elements of other dance styles such as waacking, house, breaking and contemporary dance alongside or within their work, as well as concepts of embodiment taken from Yoga in their teaching.
